Looking for flat water river kayaking in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains? Book today with NCOA for a one-of-a-kind, Blue Ridge Mountain experience! Paddle trips last from 2-5 hours, depending on water levels and which takeout you select down river. Guests have 3 take out options. This paddle consists of several small rapids, class I. We can offer guests a section with a class II rapid. Just let your shuttle driver know when you check in at the river outpost that you would like a more exciting paddle.

The Toe River is one of the USA's last free flowing rivers and is also a world class trout stream. We boast views of the Blue Ridge Mountains with NO CROWDS and a unique experience to see wildlife including eagles, osprey, deer and perhaps even a hellbender. The Hellbender is North America’s largest amphibian, an indicator of very clean and clear water! Seasonally river guests can see the monarch butterfly migration and rhododendron blooms along the Toe River’s banks. 

NCOA has a lot of kayak choices for guests including, the Mini-Cat Tube/boat, Fishing Oar boats, Inflatable kayaks, Youth Kayaks, play boats and a 3-person Canoe! We even sell some of those boats in our store, giving our guests a chance to try it before they buy it!

Who: 

No experience, no problem! Beginner kayaking! Kids 3-5 years old and under 70lbs must be in the boat with an adult.  PFDs (i.e. life jackets) are provided and required. Shoes are required on all guests and flip flops are not recommended and will wash off your feet! All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult!

When & Where: 

Trips meet at the NCOA River Outpost at 1173 Whitson Branch Rd, Bakersville NC. Kayak rentals Start April 1^st and run hourly from 10 AM - 2 PM. Trips run rain or shine. Any adventure trip necessities can be purchased at our river outpost store.

Cost: 

Includes boat, PFD, and round-trip shuttle.
